End of Sierra skating window?

A small storm came through the region the other day depositing 4-6 inches of snow in the high country, abruptly bringing the backcountry skating to a halt!  While there is still some hope that a few of the bigger lakes were still open water and left unaffected, larger storms this coming week may truly shut it down.  In the meantime (while waiting for snow) there is always desert exploration.

Not long ago I went up into the Saline Range in a remote area of Death Valley National Park on a bit of a backpack  with my good friends Rob Russell and Stretch Gillum. Great wandering and discovery and ice cold beer.
